Revision timetable template

5 min read ยท updated 2026-09-01

A revision timetable fails when it is too ambitious. This one is built around three habits that actually stick: short sessions, spaced returns, and one protected rest day. Copy the structure below into your family calendar.

The structure

  • โœ“ Weekday: one 30-40 minute session after a snack and before any screens
  • โœ“ Second weekday session for exam-year students (Year 6 SATs, GCSE, A-Level, HSC)
  • โœ“ Saturday: the 'big block', one hour of past-paper or practice questions
  • โœ“ Sunday: off, or a 20-minute error-log review only

How to split the subjects

List every subject and give the weakest two double time. Then space the returns: each subject appears at least twice a week, because revisiting a topic after a gap is what fixes it in memory. Rote-filling every hour with the hardest subject produces burnout by half term, and no retention.

A worked example (exam-year student)

  • โœ“ Monday: Maths, 40 minutes (weak topic + questions)
  • โœ“ Tuesday: English, 40 minutes (set text or writing practice)
  • โœ“ Wednesday: Science, 40 minutes
  • โœ“ Thursday: Maths again, 40 minutes (spaced return + error log)
  • โœ“ Friday: off (activities, rest)
  • โœ“ Saturday: full past paper or two timed sections, 60-90 minutes
  • โœ“ Sunday: mark and log errors, 20 minutes

Print it, then protect it

Print the timetable and stick it where homework happens (this page prints cleanly with your browser's print button). Tick sessions off visibly; children respond to the streak. And when the timetable collapses after a rough week, restart it without drama. The restart is the skill.

FAQs

How far ahead should a revision timetable start?๏ผ‹

Six to ten weeks before the exam block is the sweet spot for most students: long enough to space practice, short enough to stay urgent.

Should breaks be in the timetable?๏ผ‹

Yes, explicitly. A protected rest day and short breaks between sessions are what make the rest of the timetable sustainable.
