The Digital SAT, explained

The SAT went fully digital: shorter, adaptive, and taken in an app called Bluebook. If you last saw the paper version years ago, almost everything about pacing and preparation strategy has changed. Here is how it works now.
Format and timing
Total test time is about two hours and fourteen minutes. Reading and Writing runs first as two 32-minute modules, then Math as two 35-minute modules, with a short break between sections. Scores still run 400-1600. A built-in Desmos calculator is available for the whole math section, and a whiteboard tool replaces scratch paper.
How adaptivity works
Each section's first module contains a mix of difficulties. Perform well and the second module serves harder questions worth more toward your score; struggle and it serves an easier set with a lower ceiling. Practically: the first module is where scores are won, because the adaptive ceiling opens or closes there.
What changed from the paper SAT

How to prepare for an adaptive test
Use Bluebook's official practice tests for anything full-length, because pacing and the adaptive jump are what you are training. FAQs
Can I use my own laptop for the Digital SAT?＋
Yes, if it meets College Board's requirements and runs the Bluebook app, or you can request a device from College Board in advance. Check the Bluebook device requirements well before test day.
Is the math section still calculator-allowed?＋
The entire math section allows a calculator, and Bluebook includes a built-in Desmos graphing calculator. Practising with Desmos specifically is a real advantage.
